Reviewing lots of products online or in person it’s hard to satisfy me when I am looking for value, quality and long-lasting all in one.
The Dark Energy Poseidon Pro passes on all those criteria and more. The more I used and worked with this product the more “wow’s” I started to say out loud.
It was an immediate addition to our recommended brand list. There is a bonus surprise review of their plasma lighter at the end of this post (be sure and check that out also).

A Battery That Lasts (8 years actually)!

An immediate attraction I had to this product was the level of quality of the battery that is included.
Under stress testing, they have estimated that the battery will hold a charge for years! Making this one of the longest-lasting batteries you can hold in your hand.
The major benefit for preppers is that this could be left charged in your bug-out bag for 1 year or more and when you have to leave in a hurry you would still have a majority of that battery charged up ready to recharge your phone, etc.
The boast on the Dark Energy Website is that the battery can hold a charge even for 8+ years (WOW!) 🙂 , being “patented tech which allows for an extremely low idle drain.”
The battery can cycle over 500+ times without any degradation to the battery that would equal on average (1500-2000 phone charges).
After this initial 500 full recharges it would just slowly degrade like any lithium ion type battery does.
The battery has a 10,200mAh power capacity.
Packing quite a bit of energy into a small, lightweight, portable frame.
Poseidon Pro Packing And Overview

The Poseidon Pro is submersible. This means you can get it wet and even drop it in water and it will be fine.
It is rated to be completely submerged in 6ft (2m) of water for 45 minutes and (IP68 Rating)
The Poseidon Pro is Armored. It is designed to take 1,000 LB (454 kg) of crushing force and 50ft (15m) Drops onto concrete.
As mentioned above in the battery section it can hold over 8+ years of charge.
Each charge can on average charge 36 hours of smartphone use.
The Poseidon Pro can power something via USB-A (normal USB port) or USB-C (standard for most new smartphones).
As well as charging other devices you can “input” power from a solar panel (see the new spectre here) or from a standard USB wall charger.
Dark Energy has compacted all of this use into a hand device that is the size of most larger modern smartphones. (height 6in, width 3.25in, thickness 0.63in). It weighs just 9.6oz.
Dropping the Poseidon Pro! Yes for Real!

My youngest child (5 years old) said to me today, is this the one you can drop? I said yes. Without further questioning he grabs the Poseidon Pro and throws it to the rug floor as hard as he can with a big smile.
I quickly showed him the battery level indicator works so everything should be fine, but told him not to throw it anymore!
The Poseidon Pro is almost indestructible. The Dark Energy team has made sure of this and we love it.
When you think of lithium ion batteries you usually think of fragility. Not so with Dark Energy’s product.
The Armor Flex Tech built into the product can help this device withstand a 50 ft drop. A shotgun blast, 1500lb of crushing force and 1.5lb of explosives. wow!
Of course, after reading this people want to take it to the test online and they have. Here are a few examples of testing the durability of the Poseidon Pro. (Oh yes in the picture above I did drop it down the stairs and it slammed on the concrete, it still works!).
This video is not for the faint-hearted (he throws the Poseidon off his roof!)
Freezing And Soaking The Poseidon Pro!

Another boast from Dark Energy is that their battery has been temperature tested.
They say from 100 degrees to -15 degrees F, the device can survive and hold a charge.
Of course, I had to throw it out in the -10 weather in the icy snow! Yes, it still works fine and holds the charge perfectly.
Russell Petersen says: “It worked when placed in 12 inches of water. Use it in the outdoors during search and rescue to keep my phone working with SarTopo maps.”
Here is another video showing it being put in water, ice and lots of other tests.
I also did the submersion in water test in my home as well as the freezer test. 🙂
Taking A Deeper Look At The Poseidon Pro

The feel of the Poseidon is amazing, the texture is very easily gripped and enjoyable just to carry in your hand.
The rubber guards on the sides make it clear this device is well protected.
The flap that opens so you can charge the device or charge other devices is quite hard to open. You have to exert a bit of force. But when you think that this is so it has a very secure closing for the water-tight feature then it makes sense.

You will notice above in the picture there are 2 charging ports (USB-C and USB-A) as well as a small LED flashlight which already came in handy a few times.
The flashlight would not work well for a long-term lighting source in an emergency (like a lantern). But it would get the job done for various emergency tasks.
There is a loop connector on the bottom of the device that allows you to hang it off a bag. They also provide a nice leather-type strap with a button that loops through and secures the power charging cable (a great idea and touch).

The Carabiner Pro (Included with Poseidon Pro)

Here is where the review gets even more fun! Dark Energy knows their stuff and what guys want.
You don’t only get a battery pack but an awesome survival tool to go with it!
The carabiner has a built-in six tools (Carabiner, Flathead, Phillips, Locking Knife, Window Breaker, Bottle Opener).
The specs on it are: Length: 4.5 in (11.43cm), Width: 2.5 in (6.35cm), Thickness: 0.5 in (1.27cm), Weight: 0.21 lb (3.4oz)

The blade’s actual length is 2.6in (6cm). It’s a decent-sized knife that could have a lot of utility in an emergency. The blade is very slightly curved with a fine piercing point. It has enough of a flat edge to be used to saw and cut in that fashion. It’s made from 3CR13 Stainless Steel.
The knife locks strongly in place and can be released like a normal folding knife
Having features like a window breaker is a tremendously important function to have. From Koala Outdoors: “Why Are Glass Breakers Important? A glass breaker is an important survival tool because it can be used to escape from a car that has been involved in an accident. If your car is submerged in water, for example, a glass breaker can be used to break the glass and get out of the car.”
Once the steel point makes an impact on the surface, the glass shatters. The reason the glass shatters is because it is being impacted at a very small point which doesn’t now allow for the impact to be absorbed as it normally would be if a larger object impacted the glass.

I just love the feel of the carabiner on my cargo pants. It’s something I want to take everywhere with me now. My only con to it is the knife seems to slip out a few (mm) quite easily instead of being more rigid, I am not overly concerned but that could be fixed to be more rigid in my mind.
BONUS: The Dark Energy Plasma Lighter

As promised there is a special surprise at the end of this post. We are going to have a quick peek at the Dark Energy Plasma Lighter another product that made me say, “wow” out loud several times.
Dark Energy says on their website: “A revolutionary way to start fires” and they are not kidding. Welcome to the 21st century way to light campfires, wood fires or any fire you need to start.
After having this for just a few days I have already used the flashlight several times and the fire starter. It’s going to be a product I keep in my pocket with the carabiner on the pants.

The flashlight is built in as 120 lumens and also has a strobe function for emergencies.
There is just one button to press so when you press it the light comes on. And you press it again the light goes off. Then when you press it again it is on strobe function, so every time you roll it on and off it rotates between normal flashlight mode and strobe emergency light.
I love this as there is just one button to press no holding buttons or doing anything fancy, just simple clicks.
The specs for a plasma lighter are: Length: 3.75 in (9.53cm), Width: 1 in (2.54cm), Weight: 0.14 lb (2.26oz)

The exciting part of this device is the fire starter. It is powered by a Dual-Arc Plasma Emitter which lights anything on fire very quickly.
How it works is when you open the other end of the device it unlocks a safety pin so when you press the button now the flashlight will not turn on but the actual plasma lighter.
The recharging cable plugs in on this side also.
The device features not just a single plasma emitter but double the plasma emitters to ensure a consistent light each time. The device is also waterproof (within reason I am sure), but a great feature for those taking this out in the elements.

One of the greatest features of having a Plasma lighter is its “windproof” so in any condition it will give plasma light which will start a fire easily.
This same technology of plasma is used to cut things at very hot temperatures and even as direct energy weapons.
Personally, I can’t imagine using conventional fire-starting tools after having this in my hands.
Dark Energy Poseidon Pro – Closing Thoughts

Personally the quality and utility of these 2 products together (Poseidon Pro and Plasma Lighter) are unparalleled.
For us at PreppingInsider they are a recommended gear option as well as a recommended bug-out bag essential option.
There are a few more innovative items coming out from Dark Energy we might be able to review here. Looking forward to what else Dark Energy comes up with.
